T155 Port Expansion Project

T155 Port Expansion Project

The T155 Expansion Project was established by Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) to increase their existing Pilbara iron ore exports to 155MTPA. The project included the expansion of the existing Port Stockyard and Shiploading Facility at Anderson Point, Port Hedland.

Project Overview

Fortescue Metals Group's (FMG) T155 Iron Ore Expansion included the construction of Port Export Infrastructure to triple annual exports from 45MTPA to 155MTPA. The Port Expansion included the construction of:

  • 2 Train Unloaders
  • New stockyard machines including a 1 Stacker and 2 Reclaimers
  • 2 New berth stations
  • 2 Shiploaders
  • Conveyor networks linking the new infrastructure

Scope of Work

Goodline were contracted to execute the structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation and civil packages associated with the Port Facility expansion to 155MTPA at Anderson Point, Port Hedland.

Due to accommodation shortages in Port Hedland, an innovative solution was implemented to reduce on-site manning levels. Led by Jamie Allen, Goodline established a steel erection team in Henderson (Perth) to pre-assemble and construct six transfer stations and sample stations. The modular built port infrastructure was then shipped to Port Hedland and installed directly onto foundations from low-loader floats. The innovative construction technique reduce on-site labour costs, improved quality assurance controls and eliminated safety hazards associated with on-site stick built steel erection.

Goodline's involvement in the T155 Port Expansion Project encompassed the following scope:

  • Conveyor coundations (concrete bored piers totalling 10km)
  • Transfer and Sample Station foundations

  • Train Unloader - Installation of tippler cells, apron feeders and lower chutes
  • Kerman Bridges - Assembly, installation and alignment of 12 overland Kerman Bridge conveyor modules
  • Henderson build - Modular construction of 6 transfer stations and sample stations and subsequent shipping to Port Hedland
  • Installation and alignment of a conveyor network including 7 conveyor systems totalling 10km
  • Installation of 4 Transfer Stations
  • Installation of 1 Sample Station
  • Installation of conveyor belts totalling 20km including 70 belt splices
  • Transfer station process water piping and spray bar systems
  • Installation of dust suppression HDPE piping totalling 12km and including 225 spray cannons

  • Mechanical, electrical and instrumentation commissioning and initial operation support
